Alex, the part picker and thief, represents the demeanor of many, many young men who are confronted by police. He isn't necessarily doing anything wrong, much less intentionally wrong, but that dude had me feeling hella nervous for him with the way he kept making sudden and suspicious moves and mannerisms. I'm sure it's just nerves but when he abruptly reached into his pocket and pulled something out, I was like "no! no! no! Just sit still and don't give officers any reason to think you might be a danger to them!" A lot of young men are simply mindless when confronted by cops and they don't realize that ANYTHING that can be interpreted as possibly aggressive or suspicious can get you killed and most of the time the officers are within their rights and policy to immediately subdue the threat. And if they have a reasonable belief that their lives are in imminent danger, you could very well be shot dead. Just follow directions, comply, don't do any mindless maneuvers or act all sketchy. YOU may know you're a good person who won't ever think of harming anyone but the cops don't know that and you could be as much of a threat to them as someone who would willfully kill them so don't abruptly reach into pockets and especially don't EVER disobey the orders given to you by police. Remember it's not all about you. The officers are laser focused on your every move of our hands, so don't do anything that can be misinterpreted as an aggressive move for your own sake.
